Doesn't Anybody Else Care?

Editorial: Monday night the Planning Commission met and I asked to be recognized during the discussion of Denison's proposal to "improve" the lighting of Burke Hall. I had to spar with Mike Crites' daughter, who was sitting in for him as Village Law Director, to gain "standing" before the Commission.

New School Board Adopts Old Methods

No public input was permitted at the Granville School Board's work session Wednesday evening. For nearly three hours they discussed the agreement worked out by Scot Prebles with William Kraner, but they didn't consider any input from citizens present at the meeting.

School Board Secrecy

At its meeting Monday night, the Granville School Board agreed to keep the details of the most recent Kraner negotiations secret. Although they openly discussed some of the points of the agreement that Kraner and Scot Prebles had initialed last Friday, they claimed that the document itself was privileged.

What Is Kraner Up To?

On Friday, William Kraner called and then visited Scot Prebles in the superintendent's office. Mr. Kraner had another proposal for Granville Schools. But why?

Where to place a new school

The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee met in Village Hall last evening and received the latest draft of the updated plan from Poggemeyer Design Group. The comprehensive plan update is a joint effort of the Village of Granville and Granville Township.

During the discussion of the latest draft, Scot Prebles, Granville Schools Superintendent, and member of the committee, ask the Poggemeyer planners how potential sites for new schools are indicated on the maps. Not specific sites, of course, but in general.

Thanks Bill

At its October 15, 2007 meeting, the Granville School Board voted to authorize Superintendent Scot Prebles to begin discussions with his counterpart in the Newark School system over a possible transfer of territory.

Following a closed session prompted by William Kraner's threat of a law suit last week, the Board listened to the public input on the matter. The second speaker was a surprise. It was Bill Kraner himself.

Hooray For Our School Board!

Tonight the Granville School Board will meet and discuss the recent decision of Newark's Mayor Bain to extend water and sewer into William Kraner's land in the Granville school district.

Everyone knows this will hurt the Newark schools as well as the Granville schools. It's a very bad state of affairs for our two communities. The only person helped by this situation is Mr. Kraner himself - the houses he builds on this property will be worth much more if they are in the Granville school district instead of the Newark district.

Save Our Historic District

At the next Village Council meeting (7:30 PM, Wednesday, June 6, 2007 in Village Hall), the council will hear the appeals of five citizens who object to the Planning Commission's decision to allow Denison to construct starkly modern additions onto Cleveland Hall. The five citizens are supported in their effort by a very large number of other Granville residents.

The issues are clear. Denison believes it should protect the historic integrity of Cleveland Hall by designing the additions as modern, intensely different buildings. The appellants agree this will protect Cleveland Hall, but that it will damage the historic integrity of the Village’s historic district in which Cleveland Hall is located.

No Architect and No Planning Commission?

I just drove by the new Arbys a few minutes ago.

It has the makings of a fine looking building. You’ll remember the Planning Commission spent a lot of time and several meetings with Arbys to arrive at this design. However, recently, Arbys came before the Planning Commission asking to use white or tan mullions in the windows because the window manufacturer would not give a warranty on the burgundy mullions the Commission had requested.

The Planning Commission relented and permitted Arbys to use the white/tan mullions.

Well, now we have it. The building’s windows are divided into large sections by burgundy frames, but the mullions are white or tan (I can’t really tell which).

And, it looks like Hell.
