Trustees Meet But Do Not Discuss Revising Owens Application
The Granville Township Trustees held their regular meeting tonight, but no mention was made of the Ohio Jobs Ready Sites Program application that contains plans to bring Southwest Licking Community Sewer and Water District (SWL) utilities to the Owens property on Columbus Road. The Granville Village Council passed an ordinance that would provide sewer as well as water service to the Owens site. Council wanted the Trustees to amend the application to call for Village services rather than SWL services.
The presentation of the application before the State reviewing committee will take place September 12 at 10:25 AM in Room 2 on the 31st Floor, East B, of the Riffe Building in Columbus. Perhaps the trustees could agree to amend their application during their meeting on September 10, only two days before the presentation to the State.
However, at tonight's meeting, no action or even acknowledgement of the request was made. Also, there were no public comments on the issue.
The only speaker during the public comment period was Olivia Aguilar, a visiting Instructor of Environmental Studies at Denison University. Aguilar was accompanied by Grace Gordon, the young woman who nearly single-handedly managed to engineer the purchase of Spring Valley and have it converted into a park.
Aguilar presented plans for her course that will begin next week. Students will study Spring Valley park and suggest and complete a project that will benefit the community.
Trustee Bill Habig agreed to meet with Aguilar's class in two weeks.
In other business, the Trustees announced that a bid opening for the specifications for a new, reduced township garage will be held at their meeting on September 10, 2008.
During old business, Trustee Habig presented the completed Comprehensive Plan update to his fellow trustees. The new plan is available online here.
Habig said that the Township Zoning Commission will review the new plan and hold a public hearing. Then they will make recommendations to the trustees. The trustees will hold a public hearing and "hope to pass it before the end of the year."
The Village must also pass the Comprehensive Plan update, but no schedule has been set. Presumably the Granville Village Planning Commission will hold a public hearing and make recommendations to Village Council. After that, Council will hold a public hearing and then vote to approve the new plan.
Following old business, the trustees went into executive session to discuss a property acquisition.
The next trustee meetings will be September 9 and 24.

Gosh darn it, just call up Fred and Wes
They are quite willing to speak with anyone who is willing to carry on a rational conversation. Please don't speak ill of them without discussing with them the reasons for their actions or lack thereof. This is not an endorsement of their behavior.
What???
Did you actually say "gosh darn"?
You've got to remember that I'm from Appalachia and therefore
try not to cuss in public. Slip ups occur and are typically caused by whiskey, beer, vehicles, politicans, developers, bankers...
For once we agree
Your do-gooder friends are at it again.
Nice of you to finally admit your do-gooder friends don't know what they are talking about.
Now be a good boy and go back to sleep.
Golly gee, some of us already have called Fred and Wes
They are indeed willing to speak.
Perhaps you got different results. What I found was a lack of understanding of the risk caused by Habig's reckless actions.
This is not an endorsement of anyone's behavior including my own.
What was Wes and Fred's lack of understanding?
Did you try to explain it to them? Have you considered writing a letter to the editor of the Sentinel? If you don't want you name associated with it, write it up and send it to me. If the statements and logic are correct, I'll be happy to send it in under my name.
If bad things are indeed happening and if the GP isn't being read widely enough to make a difference, perhaps more public disclosure of the issues is required.
Hmmm.... That brings to mind some interesting possibilities.
You must be kidding
Of course I tried to explain it.
The Sentinel reserves the right to and does edit letters to the editor. No thanks, I will stay with the Granville Press. It tends to reach the opinion leaders.
Are these our elected representatives?
What's going on? For as long as I can remember, the Township Trustees have worked with the Village Council to keep Granville the way it is.
What are they doing now?
Bill Habig - I didn't vote for him. Well, nobody did - he was appointed. He seems to want us to become Westerville or Ghanna, Ohio.
Wes Sargent - I voted for him. Why isn't he objecting to bringing Southwest Licking sewers into Granville? Why isn't he defending Granville the way his dad did when big-box IGA came into town?
Fred Abraham - I voted for him. What's he doing? Is he just "out of it" or is he giving Granville to the central Ohio developers?
Come on Wes and Fred - you are us - you are friends - we love you -YOU MUST DEFEND US.
Info?
Do Fred,Wes or Bill own land that is somehow directly affected by these decisions? Is there a personal gain($) to be made by them? If so, I can see the greed as illegal as it would be...if NOT then why are they doing all this B.S.?
Any thoughts?
Perhaps the trustees just don't know any better...
Although Habig is listed as the project manager in the paperwork that went to the state, I suspect they just don't know any better.
I know what you are thinking. How could anyone believe bringing Pataskala sewer, and perhaps water, far into the township could ever make sense?
Habig learned development before people understood that there is both good development and bad development. Wes and Fred seem to be taken in by the "big-city" Habig. I think those are the most likely explanations. (I may be a sucker, but I also prefer to not think that anyone in our government would be arranging for large development projects with personal gain in mind.)
